It was off to Hertz to pick up the car, got there at about 10.10 and the car had not arrived from the airport, I had to wait to 11am, as that was the pickup time, no flexibility. We ended up with a Jeep Patriot, not a bad SUV.
It was an uneventful trip to Whistler that took about 2 hours, I felt comfortable driving on the RHS of the road remembering to keep Chris close to the gutter, but not to close. The GPS was a godsend getting out of Vancouver, but once out of town it is follow your nose. The scenery along Hwy 1 is very scenic.
We parked in the common car park and went for a walk through the village to find the Tourist Information Center to find out about accommodation. We settled on the Cascade Lodge, walking distance to everything and reasonably priced.
Whistler village is a true alpine experience all year round, we know it for its winter skiing which many Australians visit but it is also a busy place in the summer season. Mountain bike riding is very big, there where literally hundreds of bike riders in the village when we walked through.
Whistler was the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics along with Vancouver.
