Today we had the short 90 minute drive from Banff to Calgary, we decided to take the Bow Valley Trail again today, keeping off the main Trans-Canada Highway.
Our first stop was Canmore, a quaint little town only 20km east of Banff where we had a walk around and a light breakfast.
The countryside changes from the mountains to rolling hills, not dissimilar to western NSW, it was also very dry.
We continued to follow the Bow River for part of the way.
They have created a dam on the river to form Ghost Lake, boating appears very popular as there where numerous yachts moored on the lake and many more in dry storage.
The trip into Calgary was uneventful as the GPS pointed us in the right direction, glad we had it as there are plenty of cars on the highway. We ended up on a ring road that skirts the city, the only issue we had was when we got to our supposed destination we weren't actually there as the Comfort Inn was located on a new road that did not appear on the GPS, it is a new estate very close to the airport.
After getting lost we asked directions and finally found our motel. After settling in we went to Tim Hortons for a bite to eat and then a quick requee of the airport to see where we drop the car off on Wednesday, easy 5 minute drive from our motel.
